"...By this time I was growing up. My sister sent me a box of make-up, the plaits went and I had a perm. A frightening experience as the heated curlers were wired up to the ceiling! When war was declared over, we went up to the Mall and joined the crowds celebrating - wonderful. We had a street party and all the houses were decorated with flags and bunting. That was VE Day. By the time it was VJ day I was nursing and and saw the celebrations on a hospital TV in "outpatients" - the first time I ever saw TV! My schooldays had ended and my nursing career had begun - childhood over!!..."
